Malik asked Reddington about her past. It was later revealed that in Kolkata of 1997, Meera was a young intelligence officer working an operation in one of the deepest, darkest holes that humanity has to offer. Guns, drugs, and sexual slavery. One night, she met the leader of a trafficking ring in Bowbazar, a red light district that’s said to employ almost 12,000 prostitutes. While Meera was trying to work the asset, she noticed the crying baby alone in the corner. At that moment, members of a rival gang came in and the place turned into a free for all. As the chaos ensued around her, Meera took the baby and fled. She ran all the way to London and never let go. Reddington revealed that he didn’t know who Siya’s biological parents were and that she had been abandoned. Nigel Sutton tried to use the fraudulent birth certificate and adoption papers against Meera and put Siya in danger.
Less than 2 years later, Sutton was killed during an operation and Meera was investigated. While she did not kill him, she did not precipitate or participate, she let Sutton die. Reddington stated that Meera gave Siya a chance at life and would have been very proud on how Siya turned out.
