Background
A research scientist, Bloom and her partner, Matthew Hadj, were working on a revolutionary method for re-sequencing DNA to make it easier for the body to fight off diseases. In 2001, Hadj was killed in a staged suicide by Silas Gouldsberry, an assassin working for the Lindquist Concern, in order to keep the invention from public use (though as always, he kept copies of their work for himself). Fearing the same fate might fall on her, Bloom used the services of a criminal known as The Coroner to get a new identity as Dr. Adrian Shaw.
